rssAbout us
The birth of Barmano. 2007 A.D.
Barmano was originally a "just-for-fun" project to create the best cocktail site out there with really cool features (and yes, there are a gazillion and one cocktail sites out there, it was a humbling realization). Since we love a good humbling experience, we've adjusted our goals to be the best "all things bar" website. And you know what? It's still fun! At the core of the project is the love for a quality drink in hand, good conversation and exploring new places. It's an important part of so many cultures and traditions. We hope you feel the same way, whether a professional in the industry or just love a good cocktail with friends after work. Our bar guide is rapidly expanding with over 33,000 listings in more than 45 countries! So pleanty of opportunity of discovery. This is very fun.
Anything new coming? Absolutely! We're pretty geek at heart, so count on lots of new stuff to come. With it's drink and brand catalog expansion, growing number of community focused features and recent move into the bar and related hospitality jobs sector, Barmano is growing it's list of project contributors that are passionate about we're doing. Got an idea for something that would be totally cool, or incredibly helpful? Let us know. You can follow all the latest happenings at Barmano's blog.
Who's behind Barmano? Is it related to any company in the food and beverage industry? nope! We want to remain independent to provide an unbaised environment of sharing and discovery.
Why so many bars, why not just have "the best"? Everyone has different tastes and we leave it to the community to decide.
The Team
David Slade
David, a native of the NW parts of the United States, and started his professional
career at Microsoft as a Program Manager in the Information Technology Group designing web applications.
Around that time he lived a short time in Dublin and Belfast (and swears that Guinness IS better over there).
Afterwards he joined the online bookseller, Amazon.com. Over a span of about 6yrs he held several positions and
worked on many projects, from community and personalization to international expansion and scaling efforts.
While caught in the fray of launching Amazon's French and Japanese websites, he moved to the European Site Development
team, and relocated to France. David also worked as a Program Manager in Usability and Metrics, Group Program Manager and
then Amazon.fr Website Production Manager where he managed end-to-end site operations and development. After Amazon, he worked at
VNU Business Media Europe (now defunct) where he became European CTO of Online Technologies for a couple years. David holds degrees in
Business Administration and Psychology from Seattle Pacific University, and focused on Industrial Organizational Psychology. He's hoping
to soon call San Francisco home. Despite many "German vs English" beer arguements around him, btw no contest there,
he still likes cocktails and wine more. His favorite cocktail is the Sidecar.
Steffen Mueller
Steffen is Barmano's object oriented coding machine, and keeper of bar data cleanlyness
and integrity.
He started his professional career at Amazon.de as a Web Developer and worked his way up to
Development Team Manager. After several years he left Amazon,
and then worked with David at VNU to help develop a European-wide software downloads
platform and blogging systems. He later refocused on software development
(including Sun Certified Programmer in Java).
He's lived the last 8 year in munich and is a passionate Snowboarder since moving so close to the Alps.
His favorite Cocktail is the
White Russian ever
since he watched The Big Lebowski.
Adam Hurley
Adam is Barmano's Australian designer and web developer. Like so many other antipodeans, he has made the trek half way across the globe to the UK and now can't be bothered going back.
Starting off in web and graphic design in Melbourne, he's since become more of a front-end developer during his time at VNU in London with David and Steffen. There he was a part of the launch of several European based sites. Now he is a web mercenary for hire, currently on contract to Bauer Publishing. Here is his neato folio.
He likes beer, especially German beer. He's also partial to an Irish Coffee or three
